What a Google certificate is
A Google professional certificate is a set of courses, built by Google, that you take in order and finish with a capstone project. The Google Data Analytics certificate, for example, is eight courses. A specialization is the same idea at a smaller size: Google AI Essentials is five courses and Google Prompting Essentials is four.
When you finish, Coursera issues a certificate with your name, the date, and a verify link. Anyone you send it to can open that link and see that it is real. Google's own wording on the certificate is that it prepares people for introductory-level roles. It is not a degree, and it does not claim to be one.

Route one: a nonprofit in Google's Career Launchpad program
Google runs a program called Google Career Launchpad for nonprofit workforce organisations. A nonprofit in the program gives the people it works with access to Google's training at no cost. We were accepted in July 2026, into the Google DeepMind AI Research Foundations cohort, so the training paths we offer in Google Cloud, IT security, machine learning and agentic AI run on Google's own programs, and the credential at the end is issued by Google.

Route two: Coursera's financial aid
On most Coursera courses there is a link under the button that starts the course, saying financial aid is available. You fill in a short application about your situation and why you want the course, and Coursera reviews it and tells you by email. If it is approved, the course fee is waived for you. You apply course by course, so for an eight-course certificate you apply eight times.
It costs nothing to apply, and it is worth doing even if you are working with us, because it puts the certificate in your own Coursera account for good.
Route three: Google's own free courses
Google also publishes courses on its own Google Skills site, and some of them are free to take without Coursera at all. They change over time, so look at the site rather than a list somebody made last year. The free ones tend to be shorter introductions rather than full professional certificates.
How to check any Google certificate
Every Coursera certificate carries a verify link of the form coursera.org/verify/ followed by a code. Open it and Coursera shows the name on the certificate and the date it was issued.
